I posted a new chart positions page. Its currently linked in on the index page and the news page.
The content was submitted via e-mail by Bryant. I still need to fix/change a few minor details, but I don't have the time today.
On a related note, the new template is almost complete. I've received some positive feedback on the template from those blessed with seeing it (lol). Seriously, the new template is lighter on graphics so it should load nicely in a standards compliant browser.
luke... we really need to e-mail all our local dj's in the US and ask to play Jewel's songs! please post on your website that we need to request Stand and 2 Become 1... Jewel is getting big in holland because the fans e-mailing the dj's... i have e-mailed four radio stations that play Jewel in the NEw England area... i emailed every DJ on each radio station on all 7 screen names on my account! Stand is doing very poorl and we need to make it improve and let's make 2 Become 1 a big hit i will e-mail the dj's everyday

I finally started rolling out the new content on Foolish Games. I've posted over 30 new images plus several that were waiting to be published. The new stuff is mostly in "Miscellaneous" and the Nov 11, 2000 links. (in the picture section)
The formatting is terrible in the pictures section right now. It needs a redesign, but I'm going to hold off till the new template is done for that.
Do to the site move, most of my time has been spent setting up the new FreeBSD machine. I haven't had much time to finish the design or add the content.
Here is my informal plan at the moment:
1. Run the photos through PhotoPage to create the thumbnails and post the images as is. (i'll sort them too)
2. Finish the template for the "index" page and publish it.
3. Finish the template for the majority of the site and publish the new pages.
4. Finish the splash screen and publish it. (yes another one) I want to incorperate the new logo with it. (logo is Done)
Now hear is the catch. I want to make this site more dynamic than its ever been. The news section really sucks right now.. 800+ news entries with back and next isn't very user friendly. I want to add a search and ditch the PHP stuff for a Java solution. (server side) I actually wrote most of the classes six months ago to do that, but never got around to implementing it. The JSP version wouldn't work with apache's content negotiation so i will need to map a servlet.
I plan to add voting to the links page again, rewrite the message board because it sucks. (in java instead of C) Improve the guest book so it doesn't show e-mail addresses to robots/spiders. (that will cut down on spam)
In fact, I want to add a username/password system to the site so that users can comment on content at the bottom. I've seen this done for user manuals on sites like mysql.com. I think fans would really like the idea. Of course i would have to delete "bad" comments, but i'd also allow users to vote on good comments to keep them. (slashdot, mysql, and other influences)
Of course that idea won't happen overnight. I want feedback on this idea..
I'm going to leave the download section as is for now and concentrate on the bad parts of the site like the discography, bio, lyrics and pictures areas (bad because they haven't been updated enough).
I also plan to fix the RSS content feeds so that they don't generate invalid XML when i use special characters in news posts.
I will add RSS feeds to the guest book, message board, and seperate feeds for jewel news and non jewel news too.
Someone sent me a link today to http://www.jewelgallery.nu/ and i realized that i still update this site, but not like i should. If this site goes away, what is left. I've seen hundreds of good jewel sites drop off the face of the earth and i'm real tired of it. It is a lot of time and money to run a large fan site. I don't think people realize the amount of work that goes into a site like mine or the one previously mentioned. My site is a collection of all my work since late 1996. I didn't even get the site published where most people could see it till february 1997. (i consider that the birth of this site really)
I've been toying with the idea of getting some others involved in this site. News entries and content additions could be done through a web applicaiton. (another words i want someone besides me to update the jewel news and through up some pictures, etc.) I talked to scott from planet jewel about this several years ago when he stopped doing jewel stuff. It never panned out. If anyone is interested, drop me an email.
The Sessions @ AOL CD includes a live performance of Intiution with Jewel's band in Quicktime format. The CD is playable in windows and Macintosh (OS 9/ OS X ) computers.
Also included on the CD, the audio recording of Intiution from that session. Its actually quite a good track.
I'll post a full review of the CD in the next few days.
