Jewel recorded "Sweet Home Alabama" for a disney film

Before I put the oficial statement, I'd like to just say that I'm having trouble picturing this. I've always thought of this as a "guy" song and I've heard the counting crows cover it. It doesn't quite fit Jewel in my mind. It might sound really good, but until I hear it I'm skeptical.

From the official jewel mailing list:

Recently, Jewel recorded a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's classic, "Sweet Home
Alabama," co-producing the session with Linda Perry. A new Disney film by
the same name, a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, will feature
Jewel's title song during the closing scene and credits. This movie is due
out in mid-September and we'll keep you informed if a soundtrack CD
featuring this recording is in the cards.

Jewel says she increased security after 9/11

Jewel in a recent interview stated that she increased her security after 9/11 and during the tour. She also stated a specific example where a person sent her a letter threatening her. The person said that if she played "You Were Meant For Me" then the person would kill her. The interview was played on the radio the other day. Jewel said that a lot of entertainers are dealing with people like this, she is just willing to talk about it.

Sept 10: A Tribute to America's Heros

On September 10th, the day between Jewel's California shows in Livermore
and Saratoga, she will travel to New York City for a brief private
performance as part of the various events surrounding "A Tribute To
America's Heroes." This unique memorial for New York, the nation and the
world, features the now famous "Faces Of Ground Zero," a photographic
tribute by longtime LIFE and TIME photographer Joe McNally, who shot
lifesize Polaroids using the Moby C, the world's largest Polaroid camera.

In the weeks following 9/11, in a studio near Ground Zero, nearly 300
individuals stood before McNally's lens and shared their remarkable
stories. The extraordinary actions of these ordinary citizens inspired the
world. "Faces of Ground Zero" debuted at Grand Central Terminal to great
acclaim and then travelled to Boston, London, Chicago, San Francisco and
Los Angeles. It is returning to NYC for the anniversary of 9/11.

The event that Jewel is briefly performing for is invitation only, but the
photographic exhibit at Rockefeller Center will be open to the public.

New Album?

Jewel's management announced the she has been working on several new songs during her tour, etc. She also said that she does not want to wait very long before starting her next album. Her management hinted that it might be possible for her to start the album by the end of the year. (i.e. recording, planning, finding producers, etc.) Of course, it does take some time to get an album ready. I'll add a little speculation for fun.. It is possible if Jewel started the album at the end of the year to have it by late 2003.

Jewel Director Contest Update

From the official Jewel mailing list:

The Jewel Video Director Search contest is moving right along. Thirty six
first-round finalists were announced last night as contenders for the big
prize: writing and directing Jewel's video for "This Way" (the single).
Now the forces that be (Atlantic Records and Jewel's own production
company) have culled them down to five finalists, whose names will be
posted today on soulcitycafe.com. Jewel is presently picking her favorite
of the five and the winner will be announced as early as tomorrow. Should
be the chance of a lifetime for an emerging filmmaker out there. It's all
part of Soul City Cafe's mission to give undiscovered artists new
opportunities and possibly their big break. For all the latest on this
contest, pay a visit to:

Guest Book is working

I just got the guest book working with a new cgi I wrote in the c programming language. I'm still rather new to c programming, but it does seem to be working ok. I've noticed a serious performance improvement over my previous VB/ASP engine. Apache is much better than IIS!
