I briefly reviewed blender magazine this week while I was at the comic book shop. (odd they carry it) Jewel is wearing black leather, and not a lot of it.
The pictures definetely show another side to Jewel that many fans don't see much. If you find a photoshop'd version of Jewel in tight leather attractive, I'd suggest you buy a copy. If you are a female fan, I'd suggest avoiding that rack at the store.
I did not buy a copy. The fantastic four, detective comics, and black cat w/ spiderman were more interesting to me.
Jewel, a former upstart who is now considered a pop veteran at 29, took a
risk in defying critical and corporate expectations. Her current album,
0304, adds electronic dance music and R&B textures to her folk-pop
foundation.
"People ask me if I ever feel misunderstood, but I feel like until you have
25 records under your belt, you're going to be misunderstood," Jewel says.
"How can people know what you're capable of as an artist if you aren't given
the chance to show them?"
In her liner notes for her fourth album, 0304, which entered the charts at
No. 2 on Saturday, Jewel thanks Atlantic's Shapiro "for encouraging me to
make the music I want to, regardless of label concerns." Shapiro concedes
"there were some naysayers. But when Jewel started out, people told me I
couldn't get her on alternative radio because they were playing all grunge.
I knew that her doing something different was a risk, but it's my job to
support that."

Here's an update about the upcoming half-hour MTV Jewel special that we
previously mentioned was to air next Monday. MTV has now bumped this
still-to-be-titled Jewel feature to sometime during the week beginning on
June 23rd. It will also re-air the following week of June 30th.
Along with the "Intuition" video and various interview footage of Jewel
and Lester during the "0304" album production, this special will also
include previously unseen outtake footage from the various content we
provided for the download card site.
