Jewel's lyrics change...

After several emails regarding lyrics on this site and errors, I'd like to point out that Jewel changes lyrics.

Jewel improvises quite often. In addition, Jewel has a reputation for forgetting songs she hasn't played in some time. A classic example, Who Will Save Your Soul.. the Pieces of you version does not contain the "Hotdog" line, but almost every other version does. Does this make the lyrics on my site wrong, no. When Jewel recorded WWSYS for POY, she did not say that verse. I would like to include variations of lyrics for every version of every song, but that is not possible.

I am always open to submissions of lyrics. Please state exactly what version you are doing.. for example album version of WWSYS, etc.

Jewel is not the only artist that varies her lyrics between performances; Bono tends to change lyrics during U2 concerts as well.

Jewel in W magazine

The October issue of W features a two page article on Jewel. The article focuses on fashion and style changes.

JewelJK.com finally getting back on track

JewelJK.com actually has content again! In fact, there are 3 audio tracks in the media section for subscribers. One is a tribute to Jewel's late bassist.

In addition, they refined the look and feel.

Askmen.com Jewel link

Here is the new askmen.com jewel link.. haven't had time to fix this either..

Pictures from Down So Long, etc.

Someone sent me some photos to post a few months back. I haven't forgotten about them, just need to run them through a mime filter. (my e-mail has a sanitizer that does terrible things to images from AOL)

They are sitting in my inbox waiting for my attention...

Don't sign up for Jewel Unedited on JewelJK.com right now...

Thanks to the "transition", JewelJK.com's Jewel Unedited is DOWN. No content. I payed for a year of content, and now I get nothing.

The professional thing to do would have been to get the new site/server setup BEFORE migrating to it. It looks like they changed hosting/design companies quickly to me.

What happened to JewelJK.com?

As many of you might have noticed, jeweljk.com has turned into an unreliable official site. It seems that every few months now a new company takes over the design and maintinence. The latest release (unfinished) looks quite bad. I suspect the graphics were made in paint shop pro or Microsoft Paint. The text is not anti-aliased, and quite frankly 99.9 percent of Jewel fan sites look MUCH better.

The last design was much better, although lacked decent browser support for Safari. It was very IEish, but at least it was professional. The only problem with that site was that it was probably on a windows server which made it suseptible to attack from those worms.

I find it rather pathetic that my own site, a fan's site no less is better than the official website. They have all the resources in the world to make a better site than me. (like Jewel) The sheer volume of pictures and sound recordings alone that remain unreleassed to the public makes a shiver go down my spine.

Yet we get 1995 web design.. wow tables were invented! My mom could do a better site in FrontPage! (she can't bold text in word btw)

Here is a checklist of technologies sites should use in 2003:

1. XHTML or at least HTML 4.0 (if you think all html is the same, get a book)

2. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS).. guess what this can be used for more than hovering links

3. Photoshop or Fireworks.. the standard graphics programs used by professionals.. there are some freaks that use Corel.. but why?

4. Flash (optional).. you're either a flash person or your not.

5. Correct URLs!!!!!!!!! Jeweljk.com redirects to https://www.fansrule.com//jeweljk/index.cfm?

What is wrong with this? Well it doesn't need to be encrypted (HTTPS), doesn't need 2 slashes after the domain.. this is INVALID, and certainly doesn't need a question mark after the cold fusion filename since there is no QUERYSTRING. (querystring means a variable sent to the server with information.. for example id=2 could be a querystring indicating the second record in a database)

In conclusion, I'd like to see a real official jewel site with real content that looks professional.

Here is the offical statement on the tour cancellation

Received 6:19 PM on Friday, September 12, 2003:

Jewel has cancelled her forthcoming scheduled tour of North America due to
the sudden death of her bass player, Terome T-Bone Hannon. T-Bone
suffered a stroke last week and passed away on Thursday, September 4th in
his hometown of Detroit, Michigan. He was 39 years old and had been a
member of Jewel's live band for the past three years.
The tour had been slated to begin on September 19th in North Charleston,
South Carolina. While Jewel has cancelled her upcoming concerts with her
band, plans are currently being made for her to perform selected solo
acoustic shows. T-Bone was a phenomenal player and we all loved him,
said Jewel. We are all just in shock and hurt.

Lyon's Den Taping

Currently, Jewel is filming her part for the new NBC series "The Lyon's Den." As previously stated, Jewel will appear in three episodes this fall on NBC.
