To The Beautiful Familiar Stranger

Shared dreams fade with discarded addresses
Lost affection comforting my failing hope
Your deep brown eyes now show me apathy as generous as they once cared
The past washed away with tears
Old passwords are just the bad humor they always were
Unable to exchange little more than old stories and carefully worded updates
Sensitive scars of our souls are left unforgiven
If we don’t mention - we’ll assume we forgave
If we don’t cry now - then we never really did
Let’s pretend everything is fine and we are really strangers meeting for the first time
Then we have never talked before or exchanged anything
Long, understanding glances were never given
But that all is forgotten with the pain we gave
So just be my beautiful familiar stranger.
